Our Cultural Week: Culture with Professor Mark Pagel | Nabokov Arts Club | The Yard Cinema

by anna@ideageneration on 2012-03-08 14:50:33 UTC

It’s been a very busy week for team Cultural Programming, well ‘busy’ in the sense we’ve been to the cinema and the theatre.

Saturday started bright and early with a fascinating lecture by Professor Mark Pagel, whose research touches upon the importance of culture in the development of our species and the extent of our evolutionary path. Prof Pagel’s understanding on the rise of tribes draws many similarities with the marketing spectrum, as we strive to understand our audiences – what drives, motivates and differentiates them.

What Can Ancient History teach us about the Future of the Digital World?

It was a much simpler world when apples and blackberries were just fruits.

But, believe it or not, the past holds many similarities with the fast-paced world of marketing strategies and ‘activation platforms.’ In fact, ‘brands’ were around long before the modern concept of brands and branding existed. Throughout history empires have adopted brand behaviours; flexing their muscles in an attempt to increase their influence over both their rivals and their population. Well, how does Veni, Vidi, Vici sum up the Roman ambitions across the continent in the 1st century BC?

A new concept B&B has just opened in Zurich showcasing artists work at the concept stage before they are commissioned to create the final piece. The Proposal highlights the work-in-progress of six artists at a time. An overnight stay becomes a unique experience, and an intimate one-on-one interaction with the mind of the artist.

A very Happy New Year from Idea Generation! We've got some exciting news in the pipeline which we're looking forward to sharing with you but for now lets start the year with a cleanse of sorts...

When it comes to constantly switching on, logging in and clicking-thru to digital platforms, the Brands & Partnerships camp holds an 'appraoch with caution' view. Patrick especially is a strong believer in encouraging people to unplug more often and against incessent status updates, hashtagging and god forbid 'checking in' - only when its just for the sake of creating for a facade of course.
